ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the clinical significance of N6-methyladenine (m6A) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) by comparing the changes in plasma levels of m6A modification related proteins [methyltransferase 3 (METTL3), methyltransferase 14 (METTL14), Wilms tumor 1 associated protein (WTAP), AlkB homologous protein 5 (ALKBH5), and fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO)] and m6A between patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and healthy controls. Methods:A total of 64 SLE patients admitted to the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University from May 2020 to June 2022 and 24 healthy volunteers during the same period were selected to compare and analyze the plasma levels of METTL3, METTL14, WTAP, ALKBH5, FTO and m6A between the two groups. The correlation between METTL3, WTAP, FTO levels and clinical indicators was analyzed. Results:The plasma METTL3 level of SLE patients was significantly higher than that of control group ( P<0.05), and the plasma WTAP and FTO levels were significantly lower than those of control group (all P<0.05). In SLE patients, plasma METTL3 level was negatively correlated with hemoglobin level ( r=-0.344, P<0.05), plasma FTO level was positively correlated with plasma IgM level ( r=0.337, P<0.05), and plasma IgA level was negatively correlated with SLE patients ( r=-0.286, P<0.05). The incidence of renal involvement and positive rate of plasma anti-histone antibody were higher in SLE patients with high METTL3 level (all P<0.05). The positive rates of plasma anti-dsDNA antibody, anti-SM antibody and AuaA antibody were higher in SLE patients with low FTO level (all P<0.05). Conclusions:The plasma METTL3 level in SLE patients are significantly increased, while the plasma WTAP and FTO levels are significantly reduced, which are related to various clinical indicators and may be related to the onset of SLE.

ABSTRACT

Purpose@#The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between nutrition, physical activity, fatigue, and quality of life (QoL) among childhood cancer survivors. The specific purpose was to examine whether nutrition mediated and physical activity moderated the relationship between fatigue and QoL in this population. @*Methods@#A pooled sample of 120 childhood cancer survivors was recruited at pediatric oncology wards and ambulatory settings between August 2020 and May 2021. We collected data on participants’ demographic characteristics, fatigue, nutritional status, physical activity, and QoL. We then adapted Hayes Process Macro to examine the mediating and moderating effects of nutrition and physical activity on the relationship between fatigue and QoL. @*Results@#In models adjusted for age and sex, (1) the simple mediation analysis identified the mediating effect of nutrition on the relationship between fatigue and QoL; and (2) the mediation and moderation analysis identified that the direct effect of nutrition between fatigue and QoL was significant when adding (a) physical activity and (b) fatigue × physical activity. There were significantly decreasing trends in physical activity at 1 standard deviation below the mean and at the mean, but not at 1 standard deviation above the mean. @*Conclusions@#Our findings demonstrate that nutrition mediated and physical activity moderated the relationship between fatigue and QoL. This highlights an opportunity to enhance QoL among childhood cancer survivors through healthy lifestyle interventions. To ensure that future interventions address children's needs and promote the greatest impact, such interventions should include nutrition and physical activity components that involve nurses, pediatric oncology physicians, nutritionists, and physical therapists.Keyword

ABSTRACT

Besides using for hair removal, depilatory agents have been considered to be used as a penetration enhancer for transepidermal drug delivery. To examine the effect in hair follicles (HFs), two commercially available depilatory creams were tested on the dorsal skin of mice to monitor the effect deep into the skin structure. Fifteen male BALB/c mice were used in this study. Depilatory creams were applied to the dorsal skin of the same animal using shaved and untouched treatments as controls to minimize individual differences. Skin samples were collected at three days, one week and two weeks (n = 5 for each) after the treatment, and subjected for hematoxylin-eosin staining, and immunohistochemical analysis for proinflammatory cytokines. The morphological examination showed an increase in the thickness of epidermal layer of the depilatory cream-treated skin at early time points and in the subcutis at two weeks. Depilatory cream promoted entry of anagen phase and increased the number of hair follicles in the subcutis at one and two weeks. Immunohistochemistry showed elevated percentages of dermal fibroblasts expressing interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, and tumor necrosis factor-β. Shaving process increased the thickness of epidermis and dermis as depilatory creams did, but did neither induce the expression of proinflammatory cytokines in the dermal fibroblasts nor the number of HFs. The results suggested that the commercially available depilatory creams caused a transient minor inflammatory response of the skin and increased the levels of cytokines that might subsequently affect hair growth.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the relationship of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number with clinicopathologic characteristics and its influence on the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. Methods:The retrospective case-control study was conducted. The clinicopathological data of 71 HCC patients undergoing surgical treatment in the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital of Naval Medical University from March to June 2011 were collected. There were 61 males and 10 females, aged from 26 to 80 years, with a median age of 55 years. The mtDNA copy number of tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues were measured for all patients. Observation indicators: (1) the mtDNA copy number of tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues and relationship between the mtDNA copy number and clinicopathological characteristics of HCC patients; (2) follow-up; (3) related factors for the prognosis of HCC patients. Follow-up using outpatient examination or telephone interview was conducted to detect postoperative survival of patients up to September 2019. Measurement data with normal distribution were described as Mean± SD, and comparison between groups was analyzed using independent samples t test or the matched samples t test. Measurement data with skewed distribution were described as M(range). Count data were represented as absolute numbers, and comparison between groups was analyzed using the chi-square test or Fisher exact probability. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted using the COX regressional model. Variables with P<0.10 in the univariate analysis were included for the multivariate analysis. Survival rates were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and Log-rank test was used for survival analysis. Results:(1) The mtDNA copy number of tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues and relationship between the mtDNA copy number and clinicopathological characteristics of HCC patients: of 71 HCC patients, the mtDNA copy number was 0.85±0.08 in tumor tissues, versus 1.16±0.08 in adjacent normal tissues, showing a significant difference between them ( t=2.96, P<0.05). Of 71 HCC patients, 48 cases were mtDNA-low and 23 cases were mtDNA-high. Cases with tumor capsule as integrity or not-integrity, cases with or without microvascular (MVI) in mtDNA-low and mtDNA-high patients were 20, 28, 21, 27 and 16, 7, 4, 19, respectively, showing significant differences ( χ2=4.84, 4.74, P<0.05). (2) Follow-up: 71 patients were followed up for 2.1 to 85.3 months, with a median follow-up time of 47.8 months. The 1-, 3-, 5-year overall survival rates of 71 HCC patients were 87.3%, 64.7, 37.4%, respectively. Moreover, the 1-, 3-, 5-year overall survival rates were 81.2%, 50.0%, 29.2% of the mtDNA-low patients, versus 95.7%, 86.5%, 54.7% of the mtDNA-high patients, showing a significant difference between the two groups ( χ2=5.86, P<0.05). (3) Related factors for the prognosis of HCC patients. Results of univariate analysis showed that the number of tumor, portal vein tumor thrombus, MVI, Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage, mtDNA copy number were related factors for the prognosis of HCC patients ( hazard ratios=2.211, 2.911, 3.899, 3.587, 0.440, 95% confidence intervals as 1.024?4.777, 1.485?5.704, 2.115?7.186, 1.615?7.966, 0.223?0.871, P<0.05). Results of multivariate analysis showed that MVI and mtDNA copy number were independent influencing factors for the prognosis of HCC patients ( hazard ratios=2.754, 0.437, 95% confidence intervals as 1.374?5.521, 0.205?0.932, P<0.05). Conclusions:The mtDNA copy number of HCC patients is related with tumor capsule and MVI. The mtDNA copy number and MVI are independent influencing factors for the prognosis of HCC patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective: During laparoscopic pelvic operational procedure for obese patients with rectal cancer, the large amount of fat in the abdominal cavity often impairs the exposure of the surgical field, resulting in technical difficulty. In contrast, robotic surgery has the advantages of being more minimally invasive, precise, and flexible. This study compared the clinical efficacy of robotic and laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer for overweight and obese patients. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted. Clinical data of 173 patients with rectal cancer and a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m(2) who received robotic or laparoscopic radical rectal resection at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 2015 to February 2019 were retrospectively collected. Of 173 patients, 90 underwent robotic surgery and 83 underwent laparoscopic surgery. The intraoperative parameters, postoperative short-term and follow-up status were analyzed and compared between the two groups. The follow-up ended in December 2019. Results: Of 173 patients, 103 were male and 70 were female with a median age of 62 (range 29 to 86) years. The average BMI was (27.2±1.6) kg/m(2) in the robotic group and (27.3±1.5) kg/m(2) in the laparoscopic group. No significant differences in baseline data were observed between two groups (all P>0.05). As compared to the laparoscopic group, the robotic group had less intraoperative blood loss [(73.0±46.8) ml vs. (120.9±59.9) ml, t=-5.881, P<0.001] and higher postoperative hospitalization expense [(61±15) thousand yuan vs (52±13) thousand yuan, t=3.468, P=0.026]. The conversion rate in the robotic group was 1.1% (1/90), which was lower than 6.0% (5/83) in the laparoscopic group, but the difference was not statistically significant (P=0.106). There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in operative time, number of intraoperative blood transfusion, number of harvested lymph nodes, time to the first flatus, postoperative hospital stay and morbidity of total postoperative complications (all P>0.05). Five (6.0%) patients in the laparoscopic group developed urinary dysfunction, while no case in the robotic group developed postoperative urinary dysfunction (P=0.024). The 173 patients were followed up for 8-59 months, with a median follow-up of 36 months. The 3-year overall survival rate of robotic group and laparoscopic group was 89.8% and 86.6%, respectively without significant difference between the two groups (P=0.638). The 3-year disease-free survival rate of the robotic group and the laparoscopic group was 85.6% and 81.5%, respectively without significant difference as well (P=0.638). Conclusions: Robotic radical surgery is safe and feasible for overweight and obese patients with rectal cancer. Compared with laparoscopic radical surgery, it has advantages of clear vision of surgical exposure, less intraoperative blood loss, less pelvic autonomic nerve damage, and operation in a narrow space.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo study the mechanism of renal injury in urogenic sepsis and explore the effect of H2S on the expression of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38MAPK) and Cysteine protease 3(Caspase3) and apoptosis in renal tissue of urogenic sepsis. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has a wide range of biological effects and has a certain protective effect on the kidney. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of H2S on the expression of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38MAPK), cysteine proteinase 3 (Caspase3), and cell apoptosis in renal tissue of urogenic sepsis, and further to study the mechanism of urinary sepsis renal injury.MethodsNew Zealand rabbits (n=40) were divided into five groups Control, Sham, Sepsis, NaHS, and PAG, with eight rabbits in each group. The vital signs, blood routine white blood cell count, neutrophil count, and renal function (Cr, BUN) of five groups of New Zealand rabbits were recorded before the operation, 24 hrs after the operation, 48 hrs after the operation, and 72 hrs after the operation. 72 hrs after the operation, the left kidney tissue was taken for HE staining to observe the changes of cell morphology and structure of the kidney tissue. The apoptotic cells in renal tissue were labeled by Tunel assay (in situ terminal transferase labeling technique). The expression levels of p38MAPK and Caspase3 in renal tissue were tested by ELISA.Results The apoptosis indexes of renal tissue cells in group Control and group Sham were (5.65±2.43)% and (5.57±2.72)%, respectively, with no statistically significant difference (P>0.05). The apoptosis index of rabbit kidney tissue in group Sepsis was (25.26±2.70)%, which was significantly higher than that in group Control and group Sham (P0.05). Pairwise comparison between groups Sepsis, NaHS, and PAG showed statistically significant differences (P<0.05). The expression levels of group Sepsis and group PAG were significantly higher than that of group NaHS (P<0.05). The expression level of group PAG was significantly higher than that of group Sepsis (P<0.05).Conclusion H2S can alleviate renal damage caused by urine-derived sepsis, and its mechanism combined with H2S to suppress the expression of p38MAPK and Caspase3 in the renal tissue of urogenous sepsis, thereby reducing renal cell apoptosis Death.

ABSTRACT

Proteins are dynamic, fluctuating between multiple conformational states. Protein dynamics, spanning orders of magnitude in time and space, allow proteins to perform specific functions. Moreover, under certain conditions, proteins can morph into a different set of conformations. Thus, a complete understanding of protein structural dynamics can provide mechanistic insights into protein function. Here, we review the latest developments in methods used to determine protein ensemble structures and to characterize protein dynamics. Techniques including X-ray crystallography, cryogenic electron microscopy, and small angle scattering can provide structural information on specific conformational states or on the averaged shape of the protein, whereas techniques including nuclear magnetic resonance, fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), and chemical cross-linking coupled with mass spectrometry provide information on the fluctuation of the distances between protein domains, residues, and atoms for the multiple conformational states of the protein. In particular, FRET measurements at the single-molecule level allow rapid resolution of protein conformational states, where information is otherwise obscured in bulk measurements. Taken together, the different techniques complement each other and their integrated use can offer a clear picture of protein structure and dynamics.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Autonomic imbalance is considered a psychopathological mechanism underlying major depressive disorder (MDD). Heart rate variability (HRV) is an index for autonomic activation. Poor sleep quality is common among patients with MDD. HRV biofeedback (BF) has been used for regulating autonomic balance among patients with physical illness and mental disorders. The purpose of present study was to examine the effects of HRV-BF on depressive symptoms, sleep quality, pre-sleep arousal, and HRV indices, in patients with MDD and insomnia. METHODS: In this case-controlled study, patients with MDD and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score higher than 6 were recruited. The HRV-BF group received weekly 60-minute protocol for 6 weeks, and the control group who have matched the age and sex received medical care only. All participants were assessed on Beck Depression Inventory-II, Back Anxiety Inventory, PSQI, and Pre-Sleep Arousal Scale. Breathing rates and electrocardiography were also performed under resting state at pre-testing, and post-testing conditions and for the HRV-BF group, also at 1-month follow-up. RESULTS: In the HRV-BF group, symptoms of depression and anxiety, sleep quality, and pre-sleep arousal were significantly improved, and increased HRV indices, compared with the control group. Moreover, in the HRV-BF group, significantly improved symptoms of depression and anxiety, decreased breathing rates, and increased HRV indices were detected at post-testing and at 1-month follow-up, compared with pre-testing values. CONCLUSION: This study confirmed that HRV-BF is a useful psychosocial intervention for improving autonomic balance, baroreflex, and symptoms of depression and insomnia in MDD patients.

ABSTRACT

N-methyladenosine (mA), a ubiquitous RNA modification, is installed by METTL3-METTL14 complex. The structure of the heterodimeric complex between the methyltransferase domains (MTDs) of METTL3 and METTL14 has been previously determined. However, the MTDs alone possess no enzymatic activity. Here we present the solution structure for the zinc finger domain (ZFD) of METTL3, the inclusion of which fulfills the methyltransferase activity of METTL3-METTL14. We show that the ZFD specifically binds to an RNA containing 5'-GGACU-3' consensus sequence, but does not to one without. The ZFD thus serves as the target recognition domain, a structural feature previously shown for DNA methyltransferases, and cooperates with the MTDs of METTL3-METTL14 for catalysis. However, the interaction between the ZFD and the specific RNA is extremely weak, with the binding affinity at several hundred micromolar under physiological conditions. The ZFD contains two CCCH-type zinc fingers connected by an anti-parallel β-sheet. Mutational analysis and NMR titrations have mapped the functional interface to a contiguous surface. As a division of labor, the RNA-binding interface comprises basic residues from zinc finger 1 and hydrophobic residues from β-sheet and zinc finger 2. Further we show that the linker between the ZFD and MTD of METTL3 is flexible but partially folded, which may permit the cooperation between the two domains during catalysis. Together, the structural characterization of METTL3 ZFD paves the way to elucidate the atomic details of the entire process of RNA mA modification.

ABSTRACT

Diemailing~® Kudiezi Injection( DKI) is widely used in the treatment of cerebral infarction, coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. Long-term clinical application and related research evidence showed that DKI has a good effect in improving the clinical symptoms of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, this injection has not been included in any clinical practice guideline. It has been found that the use of DKI is in wrong way in clinical practice in recent years. Therefore, clinical experts from the field of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases nationwide are invited to compile this expert consensus in order to guide clinicians.GRADE system is used to grade the quality of evidence according to different outcomes according to degrading factors. Then it forms the recommendation or consensus suggestion through the nominal group method. The formation of expert consensus mainly considers six factors: quality of evidence, economy, efficacy, adverse reactions, patient acceptability and others. Based on these six aspects,if the evidence is sufficient,a " recommendation" supported by evidence is formed, and GRADE grid voting rule is adopted. If the evidence is insufficient,a " consensus suggestions" will be formed, using the majority voting rule. In this consensus, the clinical indications, efficacy, safety evidences and related preliminary data of DKI were systematically and comprehensively summarized in a concise and clear format, which could provide valuable reference for the clinical use of DKI. This consensus has been approved by China association of Chinese medicine which is numbered GS/CACM 202-2019.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To study the correlation of dynamic change in serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)D] level with the disease severity and related laboratory markers in infants/toddlers with severe pneumonia.@*METHODS@#A total of 132 infants/toddlers with severe pneumonia who were hospitalized between March 2017 and March 2018 were enrolled as the severe pneumonia group. According to the disease severity on admission and after one week of treatment, they were further divided into non-critical group (41 children on admission and 78 after one week of treatment), critical group (59 children on admission and 35 after one week of treatment), and extremely critical group (32 children on admission and 19 after one week of treatment). A total of 142 infants/toddlers who underwent physical examination during the same period of time were enrolled as the healthy control group. The serum levels of 25(OH)D, procalcitonin (PCT), and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) were measured on admission and after one week of treatment for the severe pneumonia group, and the serum level of 25(OH)D was measured on admission for the healthy control group. According to the 25(OH)D level after one week of treatment, the children with severe pneumonia were divided into increased vitamin D (VD) group with 81 children and reduced VD group with 51 children, and a comparative analysis and a correlation analysis were performed.@*RESULTS@#The severe pneumonia group had a significantly lower mean 25(OH)D level than the healthy control group (P<0.05), and all the three subgroups of different severities had significantly lower 25(OH)D level than the healthy control group (P<0.05). On admission and after one week of treatment, the non-critical group had a significantly higher 25(OH)D level than the critical and extremely critical groups (P<0.01), and the critical group had a significantly higher 25(OH)D level than the extremely critical group (P<0.05). The extremely critical and critical groups had significantly higher serum levels of PCT and NT-proBNP than the non-critical group on admission and after one week of treatment (P<0.05). After one week of treatment, compared with the reduced VD group, the increased VD group had a significantly less serious condition. At discharge, the increased VD group had a significantly better outcome compared with the reduced VD group (P<0.01). In the children with severe pneumonia, the change value of serum 25(OH)D level after treatment was negatively correlated with the change values of PCT and NT-proBNP (r=-0.597 and -0.404 respectively; P<0.01).@*CONCLUSIONS@#The change in VD level is correlated with the severity of severe pneumonia in infants/toddlers and can be used as an index for disease monitoring. VD supplementation may help with disease recovery.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the inhibitory effect of the main 9,10-dihydrophenanthrene orchinol isolated from Spiranthes sinensis Radix et Herba on the invasion and migration of human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells and its preliminary molecular mechanism. SGC-7901 cells were cultured in vitro, after the cells were treated with different final concentrations(5, 10, 20, 40, 80 μmol·L⁻¹) of orchinol for 24, 48 or 72 hours, the effect of orchinol on cell viability was measured by MTT assay. Wound healing and Transwell assays were performed to determine the effects of different final concentrations(5, 10, 20, 40 μmol·L⁻¹) of orchinol for 48 hour on invasion and migration abilities of SGC-7901 cells, respectively. The protein expression levels of β-catenin, Wnt-3α, DvL2, cyclinD1 and GSK-3β were detected by Western blot. The results showed that 5-80 μmol·L⁻¹ orchinol inhibited the viability of SGC-7901 cells in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner, and the IC₅₈ values of 24, 48 and 72 hours were 77.79, 42.96 and 7.85 μmol·L⁻¹, respectively. Compared with the control group, the ability of invasion and migration of SGC-7901 cells was significantly inhibited after treated with 5, 10 and 20 μmol·L⁻¹ orchinol for 48 hours (<0.05, <0.01), and the dose-effect relationship was observed. The results of Western blot showed that orchinol could significantly down-regulate the protein expression levels of β-catenin, Wnt3a, DvL2 and cyclinD1, and up-regulate the protein expression level of GSK-3β(<0.05, <0.01, <0.001). The above results suggest that orchinol can obviously inhibit the invasion and migration of SGC-7901 cells, which may be related to its inhibition of Wnt3a/β-catenin signaling pathway and the proteins expression of downstream genes.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>PURPOSE</b>To investigate the effects of estrogen G protein-coupled receptor 30 (GPR30) agonist G1 on hippocampal neuronal apoptosis and microglial polarization in rat traumatic brain injury (TBI).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Male SD rats were randomly divided into sham group, TBI + vehicle group, TBI + G1 group. Experimental moderate TBI was induced using Feeney's weigh-drop method. G1 (100μg/kg) or vehicle was intravenously injected from femoral vein at 30 min post-injury. Rats were sacrificed at 24 h after injury for detection of neuronal apoptosis and microglia polarization. Neuronal apoptosis was assayed by immunofluorescent staining of active caspase-3. M1 type microglia markers (iNOS and IL-1β) and M2 type markers (Arg1 and IL-4) were examined by immunoblotting or ELISA. Total protein level of Akt and phosphorylated Akt were assayed by immunoblotting.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>G1 significantly reduced active caspase-3 positive neurons in hippocampus. Meanwhile G1 increased the ratio of Arg1/iNOS. IL-1β production was decreased but IL-4 was increased after G1 treatment. G1 treatment also increased the active form of Akt.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>GPR30 agonist G1 inhibited neuronal apoptosis and favored microglia polarization to M2 type.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective:This study aims to characterize the bacterial profile presenting in peripheral blood of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) patients and investigate the potential role of circulating microorganisms in the development of systemic infection. Methods:A total of 30 patients with SAP were recruited in this study and divided into three groups:infected, sepsis and Septic shock (n =10 for each group). The peripheral blood was collected sterilely for extraction of DNA,which was subsequently amplified using the universe primers targeted the V6-V8 region of 16S ribosomal RNA genes. The amplicons were separated by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE),and then the gels were stained and photographed. The bands were cut out and sequenced to determine the closest bacterial relatives. Results:As shown in DGGE profile, multiple DNA bands (3 to 8 bands) were detected in peripheral blood from all (100%) of SAP patients complicated with septic shock. The microorganisms most frequently presenting in the blood of these cases included Escherichia coli,Bacillus coagulans,Pseudomonas putida,Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumonia, with an incidence of 40 % or higher. In patients with sepsis, bacterial DNA consisting of 2 to 4 bands was observed in 90% of the blood samples. The most common bacterial species was Pseudomonas putida (60%),followed by Shigella flexneri (40%),Staphylococcus aureus (30%) and Enterococcusfaecium (20%).By contrast, the positive rate of blood bacterial DNA was relatively lower in infected patients (70 %).Of them, single bacterial species was commonly found in the blood samples. Conclusions:Our data showed that the bacterial profiles presenting in peripheral blood are distinct among SAP patients with different manifestations.Polymicrobial translocation could contribute to the development of systemic infection, offering novel insights into the pathogenesis of sepsis in SAE The findings are helpful for the prevention and treatment for bacterial infection and complications of SAP.

ABSTRACT

·Eye position control is essential for the management of intermittent exotropia, which it may be a caritia for the surgery intervention, as well as a indicator for the severity of the deviation. Thus, the quantitaties of intermittent exotropia eye position control ability is crucial. This article aims to review the assessment method of the eye position control of intermittent exotropia, so as to clearly a need for a well planned, prospective clinical intervention.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the influence of different training mode on the parenting stress in mothers of children with autism. Methods According to the wishes of parents, 46 children with autism by first diagnosed and their mothers were divided into combination training group (23 cases) and control group (23 cases). The children in combination training group received a family rehabilitation training besides the structured institution-based teaching programme, and the children in control group only received the structured institution-based teaching programme. Comparisons were made between the two groups by the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form score after 1 year teaching. Results Before teaching, the domain score of parental distress, parent-child dysfunctional interaction, difficult child and total score of parenting stress were (37.7 ± 5.6), (35.4 ± 4.1), (38.3 ± 5.4), (111.3 ± 10.5) points in control group, while those were (37.9 ± 5.8), (34.7 ± 4.3), (38.8 ± 4.9), (112.1 ± 9.3) points in combination training group. There was no significant difference between two groups(t=0.155-0.531, all P>0.05). After 1 year teaching, the domain score of parental distress, parent-child dysfunctional interaction, difficult child and total score of parenting stress were (34.0±3.4), (30.7±2.8), (34.3±2.2), (99.0±4.7) points in control group, while those were (34.3±3.7), (28.7±3.1), (31.1±2.4), (94.1±6.8) points in combination training group. The combination training group reported a lower level than control group in the domains score of parent-child dysfunctional interaction, difficult child and total score of parenting stress (t=-2.340,-4.595,-2.890, all P0.05). Both two groups after 1 year teaching, mothers of children with autism experienced a lower level in all the domains and the total score of parenting stress than before teaching(combination training group: t=3.562-7.925, control group:t=2.534-4.768, all P<0.05). Conclusions Family rehabilitation training combined with institutions could reduce the parenting stress of mothers with autistic children and be worthy of clinical promotion and application.
